We’re Building a Better Hilton – Together
Connection Through Courage and Community
Open Hands: Seeing People is a Hilton-based non-profit that helps individuals and families navigate life-changing circumstances such as stroke, head injury, trauma, and disability. Founded by Rev Greg Wynn, who experienced a life-altering stroke himself, Open Hands works in hospitals, schools, and communities to nurture resilience, connection, and hope.
At its heart, Open Hands invites people to live with an open hand rather than a clenched fist — to meet others with compassion, to receive help with grace, and to rediscover wholeness through community. The organisation runs regular support sessions at Hilton Life Hospital, Royal Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, Busamed in Hillcrest, and Entabeni Life in Durban, where volunteers offer encouragement and companionship to patients and families adjusting to new realities.
Beyond hospitals, Open Hands connects with schools and local businesses to create awareness around disability and inclusion, reminding us all that being “whole” doesn’t mean being “perfect” — it means being connected.
Golf has become an unexpected but powerful part of this story. After his stroke, Greg returned to the sport he loved — playing now with one hand — and discovered a new way of inspiring others. His courage on the course led to his recognition as an international disabled golfer, representing South Africa on the World Ranking for Disabled Golfers (WR4GD) circuit. Through golf, Greg shares Open Hands’ message on a global stage: that life’s limitations can also be invitations to see, connect, and grow.
Each swing, each conversation, each shared story on and off the course becomes a way of bringing people together — of reminding us that humanity and community are what make us whole.
Open Hands: Seeing People is proud to be part of the Love Hilton family, working together to build a more compassionate, inclusive, and connected community.
