We’re Building a Better Hilton – Together
Hilton is one of the safest communities in KwaZulu-Natal – but it hasn’t happened by chance. Behind the scenes, Hilton Security has built a powerful network of volunteers, residents, businesses, and professionals working hand-in-hand with Hilton SAPS to keep crime and criminals out of our town.
A Community That Stands Together
Hilton Security began in 2006 with a simple idea: proactive patrols could stop crime before it reached our homes. What started as a small “Bobbies-on-the-Beat” initiative quickly grew into a coordinated safety network that has prevented crime, protected families, and given residents peace of mind.
Over the years, we’ve seen extraordinary commitment:
300+ residents who stood guard during the July 2021 unrest, preventing looters and arsonists from entering Hilton.
200+ Community in Blue Patrollers (CIB) who volunteer their time, on rotation, to patrol our streets and act as the “eyes and ears” of Hilton SAPS.
Hilton Rapid Response Unit (HRR) – a unique partnership of eight local security companies who voluntarily support SAPS in responding to crime and emergencies.
The uMngeni Community Safety Initiative (UCSI) – a cutting-edge network of number plate recognition cameras, monitored 24/7, which identifies and tracks suspicious vehicles.
Winterskloof Tactical Surveillance Unit (WTSU) – an independent patrol and intelligence team keeping Winterskloof secure.
Volunteers helping with everything from search & rescue, road safety during N3 closures, and storm damage, to wildlife protection and supporting vulnerable residents through the Hilton Buddies initiative.
This incredible collaboration has made Hilton a place where families feel safe, where businesses can thrive, and where community spirit is alive and well.
Why We Need Your Support
Right now, fewer than 20% of Hilton’s households and businesses contribute financially to the system that protects 100% of us. This is unsustainable. While many enjoy the benefits of safety, only a small group carries the cost – covering patrol salaries, equipment, camera monitoring, SAPS vehicle repairs, fencing, lighting, and more.
Without proper funding, Hilton could quickly slide back into the crime and instability seen in other parts of KZN.
